Ingredient round-up

- Matcha powder - I recommend using ceremonial grade matcha for a vibrant green color and smooth floral taste. Good quality culinary grade matcha can also be used, but it might taste a little grassy.
- Vanilla - The best option is vanilla bean paste, as it's natural and gives the most delicious vanilla flavor. You can also use vanilla extract or vanilla syrup (if using syrup, skip the honey).
- Milk - You can make this recipe with any milk of choice like whole milk, soy milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, or any nut milks. Personally, I prefer barista oat milk, as it get super frothy and creamy.
- Sweetener - I like using honey, but you can also use pure maple syrup, brown sugar syrup, simple syrup or flavored syrups.
How to Make Iced Vanilla Matcha Latte

- Froth the Vanilla Milk: Froth the cold milk using a milk frother. Stir in vanilla bean paste and sweetener (if using vanilla syrup, leave out extra honey).
- Prepare the Matcha: In a small bowl, sift matcha powder to remove clumps. Add a little hot water and whisk using a bamboo whisk or small whisk until combined. Add some more water and keep whisking until foamy and creamy.
- Assemble: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, then pour in the vanilla milk mixture until about ¾ full.
- Layer the Matcha: Slowly pour the matcha mixture over the vanilla milk for a beautifully layered effect.
Flavor Variations
- Dairy-Free Version – Substitute whole milk with soy milk, oat milk or coconut milk for a creamy texture.
- Boba Pearls – Add in cooked tapioca pearls to turn it into Matcha Bubble Tea!
- Hot – Skip the ice cubes and use hot milk for a heartwarming version.
- Berries – Blend in a handful of blueberries for a fruity twist.
- Flavored Syrup – Use your favorite homemade syrups for extra aroma, like this floral Cherry Blossom Syrup, perfectly caramelized Brown Sugar Syrup, fragrant Rose Syrup, summery Strawberry Syrup or this perfectly spiced Chai Tea Syrup.
Success Tips & Tricks
- High-quality matcha – Ceremonial matcha gives the best smooth, floral taste, without any bitterness or grassy flavor.
- Sift the matcha – High quality matcha naturally sticks in clumps, so you need a fine sieve to get rid of them This helps create a fine powder texture and prevents clumps in your cup of matcha.
- Whisk the traditional way – Use a matcha bowl and traditional bamboo matcha whisk for the smoothest texture.
- Use a milk frother – The best way to get that café quality creamy vanilla matcha latte is using a barista milk frother. A hand frother works too, but I highly recommend investing in an electric one!
